Utah BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu has a strong following in the state of Utah. This can be traced back to the efforts of one man. Professor Pedro Sauer. A pioneer not only in our great state, but in the BJJ community itself.

Professor Sauer began teaching Gracie Jiu-jitsu here in the early 90’s and is credited with being one of the first men to create a written curriculum for the system. He is also widely recognized as having some of the most technical, non strength based skill in the world.

We are proud to be a part of this heritage and to pass on the technical approach to Jiu-jitsu. Our BJJ program begins with teaching our students how to use their Jiu-jitsu to competently defend themselves in Self Defense situations.

After becoming skilled at the Self Defense aspects of the art, they progress to addressing the more sophisticated attacks and defenses of the sport side of Submission Grappling. These include Gi and No-Gi techniques, along with a familiarity with wrestling strategies and concepts from Catch As Catch Can or Catch Wrestling.
